DEVELOPING YOUNG ADULTS
The Young Adults Ministry, at Victory Family Church, has been reaching, teaching & equipping young adults for 19 years. We have had group sizes ranging from 5 to 65. At our lowest points, the kids would say, “ok let’s stop this ministry,” and my answer would always be, “NO, we will pray and they will come”, and they always did.
Our Young Adults group runs year-round and it is open to ages 18-35 (or the young at heart). With each new generation, we have had to learn to adapt our methods to reach the group where they are at, but there are core pillars that never change. The Word of God is absolute truth. We teach the importance of being a, doer of the Word. Our young adults want to be challenged and they want the truth, even if it hurts. We teach them, identity in Christ, position in Christ, how to discern the battles and wage the good fight. We prophesy to their future, so they can have a direction to follow.
We lead through relationship. We demonstrate to them that we care, that we stand with them, that we hear them. We do not lead them through control, we have made them a family not just another ministry under our belt. We recognize that there is a great responsibility to steward these precious lives well. We never give up on someone. Life is hard, and people make mistakes. Young adults need to be led with grace, compassion, discernment, wisdom and understanding. We do not tolerate sin or complacency, but we speak the truth in love and walk out the path to restoration with them each step of the way. We honor them, speak life to them and raise them for the call they have in the Kingdom of God.
It grieves me when I see our Canadian young adults becoming a forgotten and un-churched generation. God is crying out for this next generation to come and take their place. My question is always this, will you be one that comes along side of them, and if not you, then who will?
